Canada's East Coast - Fiddles & Sticks

Day One - Sydney, Nova Scotia:

Arrive at Nova Scotia’s second largest city with its history of coal mining and steel (world’s largest in 1905) and historical conflict between the French and English Empires. Celtic roots, music, rum, and humour (usually in that order) highlight the city.

Meals: Dinner

Day Two/Three - Inverness, Cape Breton:

Inverness, once a bustling coal mining town, has transformed into a golfer's paradise, now renowned for the world-class Cabot Cliffs and Cabot Links courses, both set dramatically along the scenic Northumberland Strait. A boardwalk atop the sand dunes provides a perfect vantage point for enjoying a leisurely stroll, especially at sunset when the sky lights up over the water. If you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of Minke or Pilot whales as they swim past!

Golf: Cabot Cliffs: Perched dramatically along rugged cliffs overlooking the Northumberland Strait, Cabot Cliffs is often ranked among the top golf courses globally. Designed by the legendary duo Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, the course blends seamlessly with its natural surroundings.

Cabot Links: Cabot Links, designed by Canadian golf architect Rod Whitman, is Canada’s only authentic links course, modeled after the classic seaside courses of Scotland and Ireland.

These two courses make Inverness a bucket-list destination for golf enthusiasts worldwide.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day Four - Fox Harbour, NS:

Jutting into the Northumberland Strait, Fox Harbour is a resort with its own airport, hotel, marina and of course, a golf course. The brainchild of Ron Joyce, co-founder of Tim Hortons Doughnuts, when he decided to return to his birthplace.

Golf: Fox Harb’r GC. Described as immaculate and exhilarating. This top one hundred course should be on every golfer must-play list.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day Five - Morell, PEI:

Welcome to PEI’s North shore, with Canada’s warmest saltwater beaches and great kayaking and kite- and windsurfing. World renowned for its mussels, lobster, crab and of course potato fields which dominate the landscape … interrupted only by the thirty-two golf courses. PEI is Canada’s premier golf destination.

Golf: The Links at Crowbush Cove. One of Canada’s top fifteen courses, Crowbush is “truly an unbelievable combination of nature and imagination.” Expect water, pothole bunkers, wind, and fast greens.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day Six - Les Îles de la Madelaine, Quebec :

This beautiful red sand archipelago stretches over twelve islands and one hundred and 25 km joined by sand spits and some small bridges. Hiking, historical fishing villages, beaches and one of Eastern Canada’s richest marine habitats, Les Îles de la Madelaine are unique.

Golf: Clube de Golfe Des Îles-de-la-Madelaine a 9-hole course with wind, wind, and wind. One of the best spots in Canada for kite-and windsurfing, it can only be so with consistent wind.

Expect to go up or down a few clubs per shot depending on the weather. It should be fun!

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day Seven - Ingonish, Cape Breton Ingonish, Cape Breton, NS:

Located on the Cabot Trail, Ingonish is home to the Keltic Lodge, one of the original classic Canadian Pacific hotels of the 1940s. Jutting out into the Atlantic, the property is stunning in all seasons, but especially golf season.

Golf: Highland Links: One of Canada’s top ten courses, this Stanley Thompson design (1929) is his favourite. Every tee box and every green hold a spectacular view. A true “bucket list” course, Highland Links is not to be missed.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day Eight - Francois, Newfoundland:

Pronounced Fran-sway and without the “ç” in its English name, this classic example of an outport is tucked deep in a fjord on Newfoundland’s south coast. An idyllic and well-protected fishing port for over three hundred years, Francois has resisted all government attempts to relocate to larger towns. Its eighty residents can only access the “outside world” by sea and air.

With so little human encroachment, sighting whales, seals, deer, and moose is probable.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day Nine - St Pierre & Miquelon, France:

A French colonial outpost of only six thousand people, St Pierre & Miquelon was originally discovered in the 1520s yet not settled until the 1690s. St Pierre repeatedly changed hands from French to British and back again over the next three hundred years, and it has been French since 1815. Less than 10km from Canada and over 3,800km from France, these islands truly are France, highlighted by cobblestone streets, cafés, quaint shops, and a neighbouring island with one of the world’s largest puffin colonies.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day Ten - Sydney, Nova Scotia:

Return to Sydney and continue your travels or take a tour farther afield to the famous Fortress of Louisbourg or descend into a coal mine in Glace Bay. Or finish off your golf craving with a visit to Lingan, Seaview or The Lakes, all within a 25-minute drive from the ship’s berth.

Meals: Breakfast

We booked and paid for a trip for March 2025 in the Caribbean, based on a Facebook promotion and a call with the owner of Expedition Experience, Andrew Prossin. Less than two weeks out from our scheduled departure date in Grenada, EE cancelled the trip without any prior notice. We were offered option of refund, or rebook other non-Caribbean trip with no additional costs, and with additional perks such as cabin upgrade and two nights accommodations pre/post sailing dates. We chose to rebook the Adriatic Adventures cruise for June 20. approximately 3 weeks prior to our June 20 scheduled departure, we asked for updates on the cabin assignment, the pre/post hotel bookings and any other pre-trip information available. The next communication we received from EE was another cancellation notice - again offering a future rebook or refund. This time we asked for full refund, which EE promised along with $400 to cover some of our other associated cancellation fees. All we have received are promises along with a certificate to rebook a future cruise for 1/2 cost. To our knowledge, EE has not actualized any cruises on the Klara, and we consider them to be breach of contract and guilty of fraud. We are still waiting for refund payment. Communications from EE are minimal and future "sailing dates" just keep getting pushed back.
